Fear Reduction In Flexible Spending Will Hurt

Submitted by Michael from Texas in response to “What Are Your Issues”.

While there may be some benefits in the health care legislation, it is far from perfect. One impact is the reduction in the maximum amount of dollars that families can save in Flexible Spending Account (FSA - pre-tax dollars to be used for medical purposes).

Many families with high medical costs depend on using FSAs at the health care legislation will hurt those families.

While everyone can agree we need some type of health care reform, I don’t think the legislation passed in it’s current form, will benefit all individuals, particularly those with disabilities.

    Hi Michael -

It would be great to get more information from you. I do not see anywhere in the health reform legislation that reduces FSA savings. Can you share your source of information? Why don’t you think the bill will help people with disabilities? Some of the insurance market reforms will really help those of us with disabilities such as no more discrimination from insurance companies based on preexisting conditions and no more lifetime insurance caps…..

Here is a link to an article about changes in FSA’s due to health care reform - I haven’t been able to find out if it’s accurate and how it’s different from current law yet….
