He’s cutting a NYS sponsored spinal cord research program (See: http://www.gothamgazette.com/article/albany/20100311/204/3209). This program is funded by an assessment on moving violations. I guess Dave wants to use those dedicated funds for something else… maybe to enhance community living for PWD…

Guess not. He’s also actively fighting against the rights of people with mental retardation and developmental disabilities (MRDD) by insisting that they receive their care in warehouse-like institutions versus community-based settings.

Can anyone tell me why ole Dave seems to be actively working against PWD?

My feelings on this- A target of opportunity. PWD have traditionally been under-represented and overly preoccupied with health and finance issues to bite back hard. He probably feels it’s easier and less damaging politically to put the load on their backs. While he may try similar tactics with other groups. the fallout would certainly be greater from environmentalists, gun owners, and certainly greater from big business.

The butt biter in all of this is the New PWD community. Much more organized and strategic then in the past, and much sharper teeth. Chomp chomp!

  • It seems that everytime our non elected governor tries something as an attempt to easy the fiscal crisis in NYS it is either wrong or stupid. This time he’s done both at once.
Tipical politician, take it out on the most vonerable in society.
The Spinal Cord Society has a long history of fund raising and encouragement of spinal cord research in NYS and coordination with other such important organizations accross the countrY. Now is the time to go forward with the rest of the country and world in 21st century medical research of this horrible paralysis. No time to retreat back to those last 8 years when there was a idiot in the White House who hated science.
