The Senate Finance Committee will hold a crucial vote on the public option in health care reform on Tuesday, September 29. It is important that your Senators hear from you on this important issue.
A “public option” would be an opportunity for people to buy into a government run health insurance plan that would compete with private health insurance in an insurance exchange (where individuals and small businesses could purchase health insurance).
Private health insurance companies generally oppose a public option because they fear they will have to lower their prices (and in turn their profits) in order to compete with anything that is sponsored by the government.
Your Senators need to hear from you before Tuesday.
