In a disappointing vote on Tuesday, September 29 the Senate Finance Committee, lead by Senator Max Baucus (D-MT), voted not to include a public option in health care reform. The shimmer of light though is that the Senate Health, Education, Labor & Pension committee and the House has said that they want a public option in health reform.
A “public option” would be an opportunity for people to buy into a government run health insurance plan that would compete with private health insurance in an insurance exchange (where individuals and small businesses could purchase health insurance).
We strongly support a public option and will continue to work with members of Congress who support the public option and will try to get more “buy-in” from additional members.
We urge you to contact your Congressman/woman and let them know you support enactment of health care reform legislation this year, and to include a public option. Take Action by making a free call to Congress.
