Not all people with spinal cord injuries are in wheelchairs. I am tired of people telling me I don’t have a spinal cord issue when the neurosurgeon who did my surgery told me I did and I do because all he could do was stabilize it. I ignore comments for the most part but I now have to defend myself to physicians at the VA. Basically if you can walk, and your nerves work that’s the only thing they care about. The other problems are in my head? Sorry, but I am so frustrated.

I could see where that would get old quickly. If you need help resolving issues with the VA you may want to touch base with the folks at http://www.vetsfirst.org. They offer free assistance to all vets with disabilities.
Hi,
I broke my C3- spinal cord, they told me the injury charestic of a
‘Central cord syndrome’, and in that injury the person
gets more use out of their legs then the upper part of
the body (arms & hands). I can walk but my hands and arms
don’t work so good.
