Won’t Keep Insurance Companies Honest

Submitted by Terrance from New York in response to “What Are Your Issues”.

This doesn’t go far enough to keep the insurance companies honest. We needed single payer, medicare for all, or a least a public option. Non of these happened.

However, the bill is a start. There is a chance to get either the Kucinich amendment where the states can pass single payer, or Congressmen Grayson idea of letting individuals buy into medicare.

We also need to pass a campaign finance reform bill for public financing of elections to keep special interest for buying off the politicians. This will solve a lot of problems, but neither the politicians nor the corporation are enthusiastic about this HR1826.

it miss the target! This will not be popular but healthcare went the wrong way. They should have open the borders so insurance can compete across state lines and then create a national high risk pool! Something like they do for automobiles. This would make it easier and cheaper for people with disabilities to get insurance. Just like bad drivers can get affordable insurance through a high risk pool. As for a government option, please! I know my state is having trouble meeting its Medicaid obligations. Now they will have to add 40,000 more people to their roles. And as we know Medicare is going bankrupt and physicians are not taking it anymore. Do you really think a public option would be any better than Medicare or Medicaid, that are already government run!

  • Further ‘publifacation’ of health care such as a one-payer system is non-democratic. Reasonable regulation of private health care insurers is the answer. for-profit business leaders will find a way to get it done if reasonable oversight is provided to keep them from focusing only on profit.
